Abstract

Songs from any region speak for its cultural background, reflecting its values, social struggles, and aspirations. Rajasthan has a rich and diverse tradition of folk songs. A rarely explored part of this musical tradition is the Jagriti Geet (Awakening Song) from the region, which focuses on pressing social issues like gender inequality, child marriage, and the importance of education. Through thematic analysis of two Jagriti Geet, this paper explores how these songs used traditional melodies to deliver progressive messages. These folk songs go beyond tradition and entertainment, challenging outdated norms and inspiring progressive thoughts in society. This paper demonstrated how Jagriti Geet is not only an artistic expression but also an intentional act of resistance and reform by women. Ultimately, this research examines how these songs serve as a bridge between tradition and progress, using age-old familiar melodies of folk music to spark conversations and inspire collective action within a community.
