Abstract

Educational development in India after independence has played a significant role in social, economic, and cultural transformation. Before independence, the spread of education was limited; however, the efforts of Indian social reformers, educationists, and intellectuals encouraged the expansion of higher education, women's education, and primary education. Eminent personalities such as Jyotiba Phule, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, and Mahatma Gandhi made notable contributions to educational development. After independence, various commissions, institutions, and policies were established to strengthen the Indian education system. The University Education Commission, University Grants Commission, NCERT, IITs, IIMs, and National Education Policies provided a new direction to educational development. The National Literacy Mission, Mid-Day Meal Scheme, and Right to Education Act contributed to the expansion of education. The National Education Policy 2020 represents an important milestone in this developmental journey. Thus, the continuous development of education in India has become a foundation for national progress and social empowerment.

Abstract in Hindi Language:
